6th MikroFAF - Open call

Mikro festival of amateur films (MikroFAF) brings together DIY productions by various authors in order to create space for expression and creation to all who are interested in film.Over the last six years MikroFAF has been projecting short films wherever we managed to put up a screen, in the streets, in bars, in the squares and corners, cultural centres and homes. In that time we have gathered the works of more than 300 authors and presented over 400 independent video works including feature films, documentaries, art, experimental, animated and trash films.

Although the works displayed at MikroFAF are characterized by a variety of topics, quality and shape, they are often similar in their commitment to recognizing the social problems that transcend the boundaries of our countries or regions. We are pleased that we have been able to show in Belgrade films by authors who originate from Russia, China, Peru, Brazil, Europe, India, America and the Balkan region, giving the festival a transnational character. Besides Belgrade, a selection of films presented at the festival have also been shown in Berlin, Leipzig, Warsaw, Krakow, Shenzhen, Novi Sad, Lazarevac, Prijepolje, Skopje, Zagreb...

This year, in cooperation with the Transeuropa festival, we invite you to send your movies to 6th MikroFAF and participate in the race for three major awards:

Mikropolis Award for best short DIY film, without thematic restrictions. The award is open to films made without a budget, without the involvement of professional film workers and the use of its own resources. This is awarded by a jury consisting of three renowned artists from various fields of culture.

The Side Program will include films that do not fit the DIY criteria of the festival, having been created with professional film workers and with funds secured from various sources other than the author.

The Beyond Fragments Award will be given to the best socially engaged movie that, in the broadest sense, deals with the reflection of the many alternative views, ideas, movements and practices that could contribute to creating a more equitable society. Themes include new ideas for an alternative economy, mobility and migration, new forms of politics through to issues of public good etc.
